How can i design a foundation in a sloping terrain?

Foundations in sloping terrain must meet the same code requirements as foundations in flat terrain. They must be placed below the frost line. With slopes, foundations are stair-stepped so that 1) they are always below the frost line but, 2) they step up as the slope steps up to minimize their depth, expense, materials, digging, etc.
