Raw or uncooked prawns?

I am making traditional tom yum. I watched my dads partner make it. she got a bag of prawns (peeled) form the freezer and put a slit down the middle then left them in the broth did she use cooked or uncooked prawns?? they were not slimy when i cut them nor were they hard to cut.
