Marines. . . .?

My little brother just joined the Marines, he is on delayed entry, until he graduates high school in December, he will be leaving in January. I practically raised him, and I love him more then anything in this world, so naturally I am worried. What is the chance of him getting hurt, or worse? Are they treated well, medically, given a real chance at an education, are they fed well, will he be able to contact us whenever he wants? Can someone please just tell me a little about these things? I know these sound like stupid questions, but I really feel like my child is leaving, and I want to know he will be taken care of, and will learn to tak care of himself.
